Reasons why you need a baby gate for your kids

The stairs and doorways to unsafe rooms pose an incredibly large danger. They should always be blocked off with a safety standard gate that is approved by your country or state. Even a few stairs can cause great injury if a small child were to take a fall. It just isn't worth the risk.Toddlers may be walking but they are not walking very well yet. Don't make the mistake of taking the gate down too early. There are many choice of safety baby gates.

You can choose by

  • Color of the baby gate
  • Style of the baby gate
  • Size of the baby gate
  • Whether it swings open or lifts from the wall.
  • You can by an extender if you have a large opening that you are trying to keep kids away from.
Wall Mounted gates actually screw into the wall and can withstand much more force and pulling. They normally have a swinging door as well.
Pressure mounted gates have two sliding panels that you slide to fit the size of the doorway and mount against the door frame. These are not recommended for stairways.

Baby Gates are not necessarily an attractive addition to your homes decor but if it can save your child from ahorrible injury or death it is well worth it. Popular safety gate brands: Evenflo, Safety 1st, Cardinal Gates, KidCoGates, and North States.

More Safety Tips for Parents

Scrapes, cuts, bumps, bruises and more are fears for parents. No parent ever wants their child or any other child for that matter to get hurt in any way shape or form but in the event that it happens it is always a smart idea to have a first aid kit not only at home but also in your car or diaper bag. You don't have to go out to the store to purchase a ready made kit like the Classy Kid Boo-Boo Rescue First Aid Kit, although they make life a little easier, you can make your own.   Items you need or should include in a first aid safety kit are:

  • Antiseptic Wipes
  • Gauze
  • Band-aids (you can use plain or buy some with your child's favorite characters on them)
  • Wound cleanser
  • Tweezers for splinters
  • Antibiotic Cream
  • Small scissors for cutting gauze or cutting clothes to get to a wound
  • Cooling pack for little bumps to the head or burns
  • Rubber Gloves

Other items you can include in your kit are bug spray, aspirator, nail clippers, thermometer, diaper rash creams, and wipes.   Make sure to keep these items not only handy but also make sure that you periodically check the expiration dates on all of these items so nothing you may use is out of date.   Another smart thing for parents to do is to take a CPR class if your children are frequently around water and to also freshen up on all other life saving skills they may need.
