Lets face it...children are curious. They want to touch, grab, smell and eat everything. When they see something new they immediately want to explore it and play with it. Outlets are eye level to them and the little tiny holes look like a really cool place to stick stuff like their little precious fingers.
Well, electrocution is one of the biggest risks that face small children. All of the electrical outlets and plugs should be filled with safety guards designed specifically for that purpose. Most department stores and baby sections will have these outlet plugs. They are extrememly inexpensive for such a huge safety item. They are no longer that easy to pull out and some even clip in place so that they are nearly impossible to take out. It definitely prevents little fingers from getting into an outlet because parents can barely get them out.
Go ahead and put the outlet plugs in as soon as
your baby comes home from the hospital. Your baby will not crawl for a
few months but one day you will turn your head and they will be off and
running so it is better to be safe rather than sorry.
Also,
make sure all out lets are covered because if your children are
drooling
due to teething and they get the drool on their little fingers and
decide to stick those fingers into the outlet they could get an
electrical shock.
Go ahead and install outlet covers at the end of your pregnancy or as soon as you get home so you are prepared for the day your baby becomes mobile.
