Kids don't come with an instruction manual, it is kind of learn as you go through trial and error and advice from others. You also don't receive a list of what you need to properly care for them when you doctor says "congrats you are pregnant!" Here are things that you will definitely need in order to care for your baby.

Crib-There are lots of different styles when it comes to cribs- round, sleigh, portable, convertible and bassinets. Find the one that works well for you and your baby and make sure it is set up and ready well before your baby comes home.
Changing Table- This is the table you will use to change your baby's diapers. Make sure that all the baby products you need are close within reach. If your changing table does not come with safety straps, buy one so you do not run the risk of your kids falling off during a diaper change.
Safety gate- Even though your child is unable to walk right away purchase a safety gate if you have any stairs in your home to help protect your child from disastrous falls.
Stroller-There are six types of strollers to choose from. You have travel systems, stroller frames, convenience, jogging, umbrella and double. Find the one that works for you and your infant stroller. Check the weight and age limit before purchasing one.
Pack N Play/Playards- These are great for traveling, using as the crib in your master bedroom when the baby is first born or you can put them in your kitchen so your child can safely play or rest while you make dinner.
Swings- kids like motion so baby swings help the child relax and feel as if it is still swaying and moving in the womb. I highly recommend one...my son took lots of naps in his swing which made it easy for me to catch a few winks as well. Fisher-Price Rainforest Swing
Bouncy Seats- These are great because most come with a vibration mode that will help soothe your baby if it is upset. I also placed my son in his bouncy seat with his bottle while I showered so I could have a few moments of privacy and I knew he was safely strapped in.
High Chairs- There are also many different types, colors and styles of high chairs. Travel High Chairs, Stackable High Chairs, Space Saver High Chairs, Modern High Chairs and regular High Chairs
Booster Seats- There are two kinds of booster seats. One for the kitchen table and one for your car but the one for your car won't be needed until your child is much bigger.
Activity Mats or Tummy Mats are a fabulous investment for parents for many reasons.
You can safely place your kids on the activity or tummy mat (and make a quick run to the restroom) and not have to worry about them rolling off of furniture and getting hurt.
They are great for helping your child learn to focus on an object, grab and/or reach for an object The sights and sounds are stimulating.
The activity mats help you child strengthen their necks, backs, tummies and legs due to movements when excitement occur.
Let imaginations run wild with
wonderful activity toys like 3-in-1 and 5 in 1 gyms, pull toys, jumpers,
exersaucers and more.
Activity centers are a great tool
to help teach sensory and motor skills at an early age. Some of
the centers come with more than one stage so you, the parent,
can enjoy the toy longer. Those stages include 0-4 months, 4
months
to walking
and then the toys often fold out into a activity table that your
child can stand behind and have hours of fun.
Activity
centers are designed to help stimulate and entertain. They teach
how to interact, understand concepts like motion, music and
lights and they start to understand sounds, songs and phrase.
They are also designed to help your kids
learn their colors,
shapes, textures, nature, animals, different languages and
music.
Look for an
activity center that has a machine washable seat in case your
child has a diaper leak. Also, look for convenience. Some of the
centers fold up easily and feature a handle that you can use to
transport the center to the home of the
grandparents or friends. The Evenflo
Exersaucer Triple Fun center is a great example of this feature.
