Did you know that there is such a thing as the
right diaper for your kids? Honestly, most new parents, especially dads, have no idea that there is a certain type, size and brand for each stage of their kids life until they get to the store and look at the huge selection before them in the grocery store aisle.
The most popular brands of diapers are Pampers, Huggies and Luvs. Most of the time you can choose the brand based on what you hear from friends, the design or most importantly your budget. Buying the most expensive diaper does not necessarily mean that it is in fact the best diaper for your kids.
When you register for your baby a smart thing to do is register for a few small packs of diapers in different brands so you can try each one out on your baby and see which seems to work the best on their body type to prevent leaks, rashes, etc. Make sure that when you register for diapers that you register for either preemie or newborn sized diapers. You will not need Stage 1 or 2 until later.
When
you look at the box of each diaper brand you will notice that they normally have icons or a description of what the diaper is specifically made for meaning for newborns, babies who are just now sitting up, crawlers, those new to walking and those who are learning to potty train. They also have a specific weight limit or age group posted on the box so that will also help you decide which ones will be the most comfortable on your baby. Nothing is worse than a diaper that is too tight around your baby's belly or thighs or one that will not stay on because it is too large.
Ask your friends which ones they prefer and try a few out the first few weeks home from the hospital to find the perfect diaper match for you and your baby.

Everything you need inside your diaper bag for your kids
When you are pregnant with your first child you think everything is adorable, cute, tiny and exciting and while all of that is true you need to know exactly what cute, tiny and adorable items you need to include in your diaper bag in order to survive motherhood. As a new mom there will be two things attached to you, your kids and yourdiaper bag.
Here are some things you will want to take with you everywhere you go.
-
Diapers- this of course is stating the obvious in a diaper bag but always have at least 5 diapers on you at all times

-
Wipes- Wipes clean your kids after dirty diapers but they are also great for cleaning little noses, hands and areas that your child might touch like a restaurant table.
One Tip: If you put your wipes
in a warmer your baby might always want them
warm. I strictly use my warmer for storage of
wipe.
- Change of clothes- Accidents happen so
always include at least 2 extra outfits because you never know when your kids are going to cover an outfit with spit up or a dirty diaper leak.
-
Pacifiers- These are great mute buttons for when you are out and about and trying to soothe your young one.
-
Bottle- have an extra bottle clean and ready to go in case you do not have access to sink to clean the current bottle before the next feeding
-
Travel
Formula- Most formula comes in travel powder or liquid so always try to have two to three bottles worth. Bottled Water is good and helpful when mixing powder formula on the go
- Bibs and Burp Cloths- These
are great to have to help you cut down on having to changing our babys clothes or your own due to spit up.
- Toys- Keep your little one occupied with their favorite toy while you talk to the doctor or checkout at the grocery store.
- Medicine- Medicines are great to have on hand like Tylenol and orajel for an uncomfortable and teething child.
- Disposable Bags- Keep these on hand to dispose of dirty diapers when no trash can is nearby.
Every mother has to decide what is best for her and her baby but these items are the most commonly needed items when caring for small kids
How to change your newborns diaper
New parents, especially dads who have had very little babysittingexperience, are a little apprehensive when it comes to changing anewborns diaper. You might not know exactly what you need, the steps to follow or which order to do them so this is a helpful little guide.
Make sure you have everything you need close by.
I recommend buying a diaper caddy that you can take from room to room in your home and it holds all your supplies like diapers, wipes, baby powder, Neosporin for circumcision, diaper rash cream and so forth. Gently lay your baby down on their back on the changing table. Use the straps for safety because babies tend to be a little squirmy when they get their diaper changed. Undo the sides of the diapers and look tosee what it inside. If your baby has had a bowel movement you can use the top of the diaper to help wipe excess but always remember to wipe from front to back when cleaning your baby especially if you have a little girl. If your child has had a really messy diaper it can take 4-6 wipes to properly clean them. Put the soiled wipes inside the dirty diaper. Fold up the dirty diaper including thewipes and use the sides to hold the diaper closed. Put it in a diaper pail or the trash. Next lay a new diaper flat underneath your baby and slowly lower them down on to it. Lift the front of the diaper and fasten it at the waist with the tabs. Make sure that it isn't too tight around the waist and also make sure that the legs are done properly so you don't have extra leaks. You can now put clean clothing on your kids. If you need to clean up the changing table make sure you place your baby safely in the crib, bassinet or on the floor so they do not run the risk of falling while you put items away. Thoroughly wash your hands and enjoy your baby until the next change.

What diaper accessory do you really need? A
Diaper Pail!
New parents that have very little babysitting
experience are in for a rude awakening when it comes time for baby
poops. The first few bowel movements, called meconium, your baby has
will be very dark and very thick. At first the poop will not smell
very much but once your child starts eating baby food it will begin
to look and smell like what they ate for breakfast, lunch and
dinner. Believe me, a green pea diaper is not necessarily a treat to
change.
Some parents stock
up on grocery store bags and place dirty
diapers in side, tie them up with a tie knot and then run
them out to the garbage can in the garage but after a few
changes the garage will start to have a horrible odor especially
if it is hot outside.
The best thing to do is to invest or
register for a diaper pail. There are lots of different
options out there but I love my Diaper Genie II. It is very
discreet, fits perfectly in the corner of the nursery and it
does a fantastic job of hiding all the odors. It comes with a
blue odor-preventing plastic liner that hides the odor of your
baby diapers. You place the dirty diaper into a hole in the top
of the diaper pail, push it down and then twist the circular
liner to trap the odor inside. It holds a weeks worth of diapers
inside the pail so for your convenience you only have to empty
out on your designated garbage pick-up day.
So, do yourself and your nose a
favor by purchasing a diaper pail.
Dealing with Diaper Rash
Diaper rash is very
uncomfortable for kids. They become fussy due to the itchy,
stinging and/or burning small red bumps on their skin.
Here are tips for Preventing or Dealing with Diaper Rash:
- Put cool clothes on your baby. Heat
rashes are often caused by tight clothing. If the weather is
hot let your child wear loose-fitting clothes that breathe.
Cotton clothes are the best.
- Change your babies diaper frequently. The
combination or warmth and moisture (urine) is dangerous to a
babies a skin. It will trigger the onset of bacteria which
will develop into a diaper rash.
Use
mild soaps on your baby that are made for babies. Do not use
regular soaps that you would use on your own skin because
they are too harsh for babies sensitive skin. Your child can
develop a rash from having skin that is too dry.
If your baby
suffers from diaper rash I recommend Resinol. I used a bunch
of brands but Resinol worked the best. All you have to do is
ask your pharmacist.
